The Arthur Roger Gallery is pleased to present Field Notes for a Future Perfect, an exhibition of recent works by Allison Stewart. The exhibition will be on view at Arthur Roger@434, located at 434 Julia St, from August 2–September 13, 2025. The gallery will host an opening on Saturday, August 2, from 5–9 PM, in conjunction with White Linen Night.
Allison Stewart’s latest exhibition at the Arthur Roger Gallery gestures towards “the future perfect tense,” a verb form used to describe actions that will have happened by a certain point in the future. This grammatical structure, both precise and speculative, becomes a powerful metaphor throughout the exhibition: a way of holding space for what is not yet done, but already felt. A prophetic tense. A reckoning in advance.
The works in this exhibition incorporate visual and verbal elements from the artist’s old flight charts, topographic maps, and French lessons. These visual fields–textured, layered, and often aerial in perspective–evoke vanishing habitats, migratory paths, and fractured landscapes.
Born in Chicago, Allison Stewart has lived and worked in New Orleans for more than thirty years. She holds a B.S. from Spring Hill College in Mobile, AL and an M.F.A. from the University of New Orleans. Stewart has exhibited extensively throughout the United States, and her paintings are included in numerous public, private and corporate collections including the U.S. Department of State Art in Embassies Program and the New Orleans Museum of Art. She has exhibited at the Arthur Roger Gallery since 1980.
