Amy Weiskopf

While Amy Weiskopf is a master of the still life genre, her paintings bypass the traditional peonies and Delftware of centuries past. Instead, she elevates "crooked cucumbers, peeling onions, and multi-colored squash" into imaginative, often surreal settings. Many of the works in this exhibition were painted during her time in Italy, utilizing a sophisticated command of light and color to create a lively and poignant dialogue between objects.

In Weiskopf’s work, the relationship between objects is paramount. A faint touch, an overlapping embrace, or even the empty space between two items is placed with careful deliberation. The exhibition features a range of recent oil on linen works, including Still Life with Black Turnips and Vase (2025) and Still Life with Eggs and Bread (2025), which showcase her ability to find beauty and cerebral structure in the mundane.

Born in Chicago in 1957, Amy Weiskopf received her B.F.A. from Washington University in St. Louis and her M.F.A. from the Tyler School of Art at Temple University. She has spent decades painting and teaching in both the United States and Italy, including serving as a visiting lecturer for the Jerusalem Studio School’s summer program in Italy.

A 2015 recipient of a Pollock-Krasner Grant, Weiskopf has exhibited extensively at prestigious venues such as Hirschl & Adler Modern in New York and the Hackett-Freedman Gallery in San Francisco. Her work is represented in numerous public collections, most notably The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York and the Arkansas Art Center in Little Rock. She currently lives and works in Brooklyn, NY.
