The Arthur Roger Gallery is pleased to present The Sweet Sight of Light, a major exhibition of new oil paintings, mixed-media works, and drawings on paper by Australian-born Louisiana master artist Simon Gunning. On view from October 3 through November 14, 2026, the exhibition marks a celebratory and radiant evolution in Gunning’s acclaimed four-decade career as one of the Gulf South’s premier visual chroniclers. Created following recent health challenges, this luminous body of work stands as a triumphant declaration of gratitude, capturing the transformative instant when natural light elevates the everyday world into something transcendent.
At the heart of the show is the monumental ten-foot title canvas, The Sweet Sight of Light (2023–24), alongside Gunning’s classic depictions of industrial tugboats, working trawlers, cypress swamps, and marsh birds. The exhibition also introduces an exquisite series of Japanese Pigma Micron pen drawings depicting market fish on newspaper—a striking fusion of global culinary travels and South Louisiana seafood traditions.
