Fundamentally concerned with breaking rules, Wynne eschews traditional techniques like glassblowing, and instead demonstrates the medium’s malleability by hand-pouring short phrases that are as exquisite as they are absurd. Words and language are key throughout Wynne’s practice, whether embroidered over images, formed of glass, or painted onto objects to alter meaning and suggest narratives. Often incorporating fragments of language drawn from conversation, literature and popular culture, Wynne’s employs text as object and image.
Wynne received a BFA from Pratt Institute and is a recipient of the Pollock Krasner Foundation Grant. Selected exhibitions include showings at Holly Solomon Gallery, NY, Gavlak Gallery, LA, Locks Gallery, Philadelphia, Galerie Mitterrand, Paris, and The Norton Museum of Art, West Palm Beach Fl.
His work can also be found in the collections of The Museum of Modern Art, The Whitney Museum, The Columbus Museum of Art, The Philadelphia Museum of Art and The Centre Pompidou, Paris.
The first comprehensive publication of the artist’s work, entitled Rob Wynne: Obstacle Illusion, was published in 2023 and features commentary by prominent curators and art critics.
Wynne currently works and lives in New York City.
