Ida Kohlmeyer (1912–1997) was an accomplished American artist from New Orleans, recognized for her significant contributions to Abstract Expressionism. After earning a B.A. in English from Tulane University in 1933, she later pursued art, notably studying under Hans Hofmann in Provincetown in 1956 and earning her M.F.A. from Newcomb Art School.
Beyond painting, Kohlmeyer was also a celebrated sculptor, creating playful, asymmetrical works that mirrored the spatial complexities of her paintings. Throughout her career, she held numerous solo exhibitions and was featured in prestigious group shows, such as "Four Centuries of Women's Art," leaving behind a legacy of spontaneity, exuberance, and artistic dedication.
