Radcliffe Bailey creates painterly homages to the black American experience in the form of socially inflected, somewhat elegiac sculptural wall assemblages. The pieces, which are made of mixed mediums on wood are often shaped and function as platforms for Bailey’s ruminations on culture and history. Offering a wide range of African-American sensibilities, events and personalities, they map a black American social and cultural history. His multi-layered narratives probe the history of African Americans as well as the artist’s own personal experiences and influences. Born in 1968 in New Jersey, Radcliffe Bailey now lives and works in Atlanta.
