Jonathan Seliger creates works that appear to be sculptures but are really a type of three-dimensional painting. Immersed in the vocabulary of contemporary art the artist’s brightly colored paintings are stretched, folded and glued to form recognizable objects, many of them from prominent fashion houses and leading museums.
Using acrylics, wax and modeling paste with careful and meticulous craft Jonathan Seliger produces sensuous surfaces and transfigures the familiar. His works achieve a formal complexity that transcends the objects he depicts.
