David Bates

The Arthur Roger Gallery is presenting an exhibition of recent drawings and “Black Magnolia,” a major bronze sculpture by David Bates. Though influenced by folk and wild life art David Bates works in the cubist tradition, particularly in his sculpture where his artistic sophistication is apparent. “Black Magnolia” is simultaneously abstract and representational. His sculpture is essentially a three dimensional painting in which elements of the composition extend outward in angled interweaving planes.
