Using vintage and well-known consumer product labels, Troy Dugas assembles intricately designed, geometric constructions. The created patterns are in no way reminiscent of the original product; instead they have a mesmerizing effect of being something familiar.
In the past, Dugas has created the geometric patterns in a very formal and planned method, using the computer to generate an image of what the construction would eventually look like. Now he takes more liberties in the creation process. Dugas states, “Many of the decisions are made during the actual creation of the pieces. Still a very laborious task, I’m enjoying the uncertainty and the surprises that are happening. The work is more lyrical, although retaining a clear structural form.”
