This is the last of the Katrina Series. I kept this one in my personal collection because I love the red truck, the sign, and the water. The Katrina Series was such an odd thing to be inspired by. It was such a horrific topic. People lost their homes, belongings, and even their lives. I struggled with making beauty out of sadness but realized that I was not the first artist to do so. There has been a long history of artists making sense of tragedy. Francisco Goya’s 1808 masterpiece "The Third of May" comes to mind but there are many others who have done it. I must say, the Katrina Series was an exhausting body of work to create.
