"I never cease to be intrigued by seeing New Orleans from 1,500 feet in the air... recording landforms as they exist today, suspended between endurance and erosion." — John Hartman
John Hartman (b. 1950, Midland, Ontario) is an internationally celebrated Canadian artist renowned for his sweeping, large-scale aerial landscapes that merge geography with personal and community memory. Over the past decade, Hartman has turned his focus to South Louisiana, charting the intricate relationship between the urban sprawl of New Orleans and the fragile, shifting landforms of the Mississippi River Delta. His work is held in prestigious permanent collections, including the Art Gallery of Ontario, the National Gallery of Canada, and the McMichael Canadian Art Collection. Through his signature painterly style, Hartman reveals the interwoven fate of people, land, and water.
