In each edition of 25 the photogravure plate is inked in a unique way and printed on collaged colored paper in a process termed chine colle’. The results are an elegant, beautiful sequence of prints in which the colors change from print to print but the image remains constant. Kincaid’s photogravure monoprints are both painting-like and photographic. His works hover somewhere between Gerhard Richter’s puzzles of representation and the antique Pictorialist photography of Edward Steichen.
