The Arthur Roger Gallery is pleased to present an exhibition of recent work by Ted Kincaid from August 7 – September 18, 2004. The opening reception will be Saturday, August 7th from 6 to 9 p.m. in conjunction with White Linen Night.

Ted Kincaid is a Dallas based artist who works predominantly with photo-based imagery. In the late 1990’s Kincaid switched from traditional camera photography to photographing imagery he created on his computer.

Ted Kincaid is continuing to explore the interpenetration between painting and photography. He is one of several artists creating a new painting informed by photo-imagery and a new photography informed by painting. Kincaid dissects digital images, for example, of clouds, which he then stitches into a seamless whole. Despite its kinship with painting, visually and conceptually his work is photography.

In an artist’s statement Kincaid says, “I tend to think of my procedure as a photographic documentation of what is not readily apparent. My fascination with manufactured realities, quantum mechanics, and chaos theory figures heavily in my thought process. It can be stated that a photograph of a thing or event, even if it is manufactured or staged, is an expression of a potentiality that conveys that thing or event into some sort of animate existence.”

Ted Kincaid was born in Chattanooga, Tennessee in 1966. He received a BFA from Texas Tech University and a MFA from the University of Kentucky in Lexington.
