Nationally recognized artist Jim Richard continues his acclaimed series, Owning Modern Sculpture in an exhibition of new paintings and works on paper at the Arthur Roger Gallery from March 30 through April 28, 1996.

Jim Richard expresses his ambivalence towards the pursuit of the American Dream in his continuing series of meticulous paintings of lavishly decorated rooms displaying obtrusive, large-scale modern sculpture. In these new works, the interiors have become richer and more lavish in their professionally “decorated to death” style. The overdone display of crystal chandeliers, antique furniture and tapestries decidedly clash with the conspicuously placed modern sculpture, making an ironic commentary on the trappings of middle class life.

Jim Richard is recognized as one of the leading forces in the local and regional arts community. Since 1969, he has exhibited extensively in museums and galleries throughout the United States, Including the Mobile Museum of Art, the New Orleans Museum of Art, the Masur Museum, the Southeastern Center for Contemporary Art, the Whitney Museum and the Guggenheim.

His work has been reviewed and publicized in a number of respected journals and magazines, including Art News, Art in America, and Time. His work appears in such prestigious collections as the Guggenheim Museum, the New Orleans Museum of Art, and the Museum of the Twentieth Century in Vienna, Austria.
