“Innocent Act,” comprised of approximately 20 sculptural works along with a major painting and a video piece, further extends Stephen Paul Day’s signature style of portraits created in bronze as well as in bronze and crystal.
The title “Innocent Act” references the act of making art which, according to Day, is “really about putting things together in a significantly unusual way.” The artist sees beauty as connecting perfectly elements that produce a desired effect. The effect that Stephen Paul Day is seeking in “Innocent Act” is to provoke a sense of both wonder and magic through the relationships that are created as a result of the combination of different elements in the installation. Individual elements in the installation interact with one another either by a physical or implicit connection between their components.
