ELEMORE MORGAN, JR.

AUGUST 6, 1931 – MAY 18, 2008

Celebrated painter and beloved friend Elemore Morgan, Jr. died Sunday, May 18, 2008, at the age of 76, after complications following an April 8th heart surgery at the University of Maryland Medical Center in Baltimore. A private funeral service was held in rural Vermilion Parish on Sunday, May 25th.

The exhibition of Elemore’s work currently on view at our Julia Street gallery will be extended through Saturday, May 31st.

The Ogden Museum of Southern Art will host a special Ogden After Hours memorial tribute for Elemore on Thursday, May 29th, from 6 to 8 pm. Moderated by Nick Spitzer, Ph.D., host of “American Routes,” the event will feature tributes from special guests, as well as a performance by the Packway Handle Band. Additionally, a selection of Elemore’s paintings and evocative photographs of Cajun musicians is currently being shown in the Ogden Museum’s 3rd floor gallery. Plans to create either scholarships or an endowed professorship could be specified at a later date.
