Luis Cruz Azaceta, “Immigrant, New Orleans/New York,” 1998. Chromogenic prints on wood, mixed media. 14 x 12 inches.

Luis Cruz Azaceta juxtaposes the architecture of New Orleans and New York in this most recent body of work. The artist focuses on the decadent state of old warehouses and other faded buildings in New Orleans. He also studies patterns and angles in New York buildings and settings.

Luis Cruz Azaceta was born in Havana. He immigrated to the United States in 1960. He attended the school of Visual Arts in New York City. The imagery of urban life in New York is demonstrated in his early work. Azaceta remained in New York until 1992 when he moved to New Orleans where he now resides with his family.
