The Arthur Roger Gallery is pleased to present Post Modern Pharming, a mixed media installation by W. Steve Rucker. The exhibition will be on view in the Arthur Roger Gallery exhibition space, located at 136 Prince Street, from November 8 – December 7, 1991. The gallery will host an opening reception, Friday, November 8 from 6–8 pm.

“Post Modern Pharming” is the third in a series of major site-specific installations dealing with social and environmental issues. The work is composed of over 200 ceramic and steel elements combined with glass, driftwood and accompanied by musical compositions designed by the artist specifically for the installation.

The gallery floor will be covered with furrows of red clay, from which the ceramic elements seem to be “growing.” What appears at first glance to be a field of fantastic plants, are images of society’s detritus, such as hypodermic needles, bandages and other medical waste.

W. Steve Rucker is well-known for his environmental installations and pyrotechnic sculpture. He is presently on the faculty of Loyola University in Louisiana.
