Donald Moffett (b. San Antonio, TX, 1955) received a Bachelor of Arts from Trinity University, where he studied art and biology. As a founding member of Gran Fury, the artistic arm of the AIDS activist group ACT UP, Moffett’s career has been defined by a sustained engagement with political issues ranging in scope from the AIDS crisis to environmental issues and beyond. Moffett makes use of a variety of mediums including painting, sculpture, and video to analyze the interplay of personal and societal histories as they unfold within our environment. Though his work frequently applies a structural, artistically-oriented critique to the tempest of contemporary life, in quieter moments it can also serve as a meditation on timeless and universal issues of love, loss, alienation, and death.
