Born and raised in New Orleans, Louisiana, Ché Reed is a visual and musical artist whose practice spans ink drawing and tenor saxophone performance. “Vignettes of an Autistic Mind” marks his first public exhibition of a collected body of work, featuring ink drawings on hand‑made paper gifted to him for this occasion. A 1997 graduate of the New Orleans Center for Creative Arts, Ché continued his studies in visual and musical arts at Southern University at New Orleans while cultivating a daily discipline of drawing, coloring, and maintaining his saxophone repertoire. His lifelong creative mentor, legendary saxophonist and educator Edward “Kidd” Jordan, encouraged Ché to give full voice to the sounds and images in his mind through an avant garde free‑jazz approach. Ché’s drawings offer a window into this “free”, iterative and illustrious mind, where memories from decades past remain crystallized and uncorrupted. His lifelong education and performance journey through New Orleans has made him an unforgettable figure in the city’s deep‑roots music community— he is, as acclaimed trumpeter and composer Wynton Marsalis describes him, “the incorruptible Ché.”
