The Arthur Roger Gallery is pleased to present its 30th Anniversary Exhibition, the largest group exhibition in the gallery’s history. The exhibition opens June 7 and continues through July 19, 2008, and will occupy the gallery’s three exhibition spaces as well as the showroom at the Arthur Roger Gallery, 432 Julia Street. The gallery will celebrate its 30th anniversary with both an opening reception for the exhibition on Saturday, June 7 from 6 to 8 pm and the announcement of plans for an additional gallery at 434 Julia Street adjacent to the present gallery.

More than 50 artists have been selected for the 30th Anniversary Exhibition including several who have not previously exhibited at the Arthur Roger Gallery. Clyde Connell, Robert Gordy, Ida Kohlmeyer and John Scott will be represented in the exhibition. Artists were encouraged to provide work for this forward-looking exhibition that anticipates the excitement already associated with Prospect.1 New Orleans, the visionary international biennial opening this fall in New Orleans. A complete alphabetical listing of the artists included in the 30th Anniversary Exhibition is below.

Among the noteworthy works in the 30th Anniversary Exhibition are Robert Polidori’s large photograph from his just-completed “Versailles” series; a new 13-foot kinetic sculpture by Lin Emery, which is a model for a 36 foot commissioned public work; and a poignant painting by David Bates from his “Katrina Portraits”.

Shortly after Hurricane Katrina, facing pressing demands for secure storage, the Arthur Roger Gallery acquired the commercial space at 434 Julia Street, adjacent to the existing gallery. Design plans for transforming the space into a new gallery were completed by Chrestia, Staub, Pierce, and Wayne Troyer Architects, and construction has begun. The gallery’s new space will open with an exhibition of the work of David Bates on November 1, which coincides with the opening of Prospect.1 New Orleans.
